  • q:Can you sell a car without a roadworthy certificate in Qld?

    a: The new owner cannot transfer the registration without a passed roadworthy certificate, and you will remain liable for any tolls and fines for a vehicle registered in your name. There are also on-the-spot fines for not giving a current roadworthy certificate to the new owner when selling a registered vehicle.

    a: Yes, we need to be able to start and drive the car to inspect it.

  • q:Do I have to be home?

    a: No, as long as the car and keys are accessible and the car is on hard flat ground we can inspect the car without you there. Payment can be processed over the phone if required.

  • q:Do you need a roadworthy to sell a motorbike in QLD

    a: Yes, all QLD registered vehicles require a passed safety certificate upon sale.

  • q:How can I pay?

    a: We prefer EFTPOS but also accept cash. Payments can be made over the phone if required. Payment is processed at the time of inspection.

  • q:Does my car have to be registered for the inspection?

    a: No, we have a trade plate and can legally drive unregistered cars.

  • q:How do I receive my roadworthy certificate?

    a: All reports are issued electronically via email. You will receive your report at the time of inspection. Please make sure you provide the correct email address.

  • q:Does my QLD Safety Certificate apply in NSW?

    a: If you're needing a NSW safety check (pink slip) in order to renew your NSW vehicle registration, Transport for NSW will only accept an interstate inspection report if you're more than 50 kms from the NSW border.

  • q:Do you need a roadworthy for a trailer in Qld?

    a: Vehicles requiring a safety certificate are: cars, motorcycles, trailers (including caravans) with an aggregate trailer mass (ATM) between 750kg and 4,500kg. All new QLD registration requires a HVRAS inspection as well. Any trailer under 750ATM can be registered by the owner by filling out a self assessment form.

  • q:How long is a roadworthy valid for?

    a: A roadworthy certificate in Queensland is valid for up to two months or 2000km whichever comes first but only for one sale.

How do I transfer my vehicle registration?

You have two options to transfer your vehicle:

1. Electronically via Department of Transport (see link below) or

2. Use hardcopy transfer papers and submit to your local Department of Transport Service Centre.
